How Organizations Are Selected

To make a nomination, please complete the nomination form.

tredyffrineasttowncareAs members of Main Line Unitarian Church, we care for others in our congregation and in the wider community. We expect members to come to the aid of neighbors in need and to support organizations addressing social justice and humanitarian needs at the local, state, national, and international levels.

The Social Justice Leadership Council has established broad criteria for selecting organizations for the Offering Outreach donations. The recipient organization’s mission must fit general areas identified by the Council as consistent with MLUC’s values. The criteria include the following:

  • The organization's mission must be consistent with Unitarian Universalist principles.
  • It must be registered as a 501(c) 3 corporation.
  • It must demonstrate good stewardship of the donations it receives.

We welcome organizations that sponsor long-term projects as well as campaigns to address immediate needs such as relief from natural disasters. We are always interested in opportunities for congregants to volunteer their skills and services, but it is not a requirement that a recipient organization provide these opportunities.

Recipient organizations may be selected from qualified nominations based on a particular social justice theme for that month. In this case the selection may then be coordinated with a sermon from the pulpit, related educational programming, and/or active service opportunities. The Social Justice Leadership Council will attempt to identify organizations that encourage inter-generational volunteer projects.

All organizations must be nominated by a church member. Typically an organization will not be a recipient in consecutive years.
