path and lawnIf you’ve been visiting MLUC for the last few months, or are just beginning to attend services on Sundays, please make note of the next Pathway to Membership Orientation date: May 6. It’s a couple months away, but when the warmer weather arrives time starts going faster and schedules fill up quickly. We hope this orientation will help those new to the church learn more about the community and get to know others on the membership path.

The orientation runs from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The schedule includes time with Rev. Jones, who will talk about UU history, and a session to explore the ways the work of the church is linked to its mission: Social Action, Pathway of Spiritual Maturity, Religious Education, volunteering, pledging, etc.

We’ll go on a Talk and Tour of the building and hear about some of MLUC’s rich history and future plans, as well as take part in a sample Small Group Ministry session. Participants will have the opportunity to get to know each other in addition to the staff and volunteer leadership in the church. For those ready to join, there will be an opportunity to do so on May 21.

Breakfast and lunch will be served. Childcare is available upon request by May 1. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Membership Coordinator, Jessica Hirsch Lynn ().

We hope to see you there!

MLUC’s Family-Oriented Spring Day of Service
Saturday, April 15

This year, we'll ‘spring’ into action with a little gardening. Neighborhood Gardens Trust, our Offering Outreach recipient for April, acquires and preserves community gardens. On April 15, we’ll assist at Glenwood Green Acres located at 1801 W. Glenwood Avenue in North Philadelphia. Preserved by NGT in 1997, gardeners here grow vegetables and flowers, many of which help feed families and support the local food cupboard.

Carpools will depart from MLUC at 9:15 a.m. We will work onsite from 10:00 to 2:00 p.m. Light lunch provided. Feel free to bring your own lunch. All work gloves and equipment provided. Children are encouraged to participate. RSVPs are not required but are appreciated. Email to RSVP or sign up in the Atrium after the service.

ReZist is 90 minutes of Roy Zimmermans original songs, a funny and forceful affirmation of Peace and Social Justice. "Sometimes I think satire is the most hopeful and heartfelt form of expression," says Roy, "because in calling out the world's absurdities and laughing in their face, I'm affirming the real possibility for change."

Roy's songs have been heard on HBO and Showtime. He's shared stages with Bill Maher, Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, John Oliver, Kate Clinton, and George Carlin. He's been profiled on NPR's "All Things Considered," and he's a featured blogger for the Huffington Post.
