Are you a fan of Harry Potter?

How about engaging our children in social justice? I have found an amazing, brand new curriculum for 4th and 5th graders that uses the wizarding world of Harry Potter as a vehicle to engage children in social justice work. I am looking for people who are interested in helping me bring this program to our kids at both the 9 and 11 time slots on Sunday. If you might be interested, please let me know! Contact Rev. OWL (Our Whole Lives) Sexuality Education is growing at MLUC! 506

Next year we are hoping to offer K-1 OWL for 8 weeks in the fall, 4th-5th OWL in the winter, 8th grade OWL all year, and if all goes well, OWL for 10th-12th graders. Additionally, we had the wonderful experience this year of offering a parent support group during the time that our k-1 group met. The parent support group was so successful for the k-1 group that we'd like to offer it to parents whose children are in all levels of OWL.

It will be important for the facilitators of these groups to receive OWL training for the appropriate level. This means we'll need additional people trained in all levels of OWL. The good news is -- OWL trainings will be offered in many places in our region this summer, including here at MLUC August 7-9. If you are interested in training for OWL at either the elementary or middle/high school level, please let me know ASAP. If you are interested but the weekend of August 7-9 doesn't work for you, let me know and we can find alternative opportunities.

Do you have youth who will enter grades 10-12 next school year?

We are looking to strengthen our programming for youth, and to complement our extremely popular YRUU group, which meets Sunday evenings at MLUC. Two possibilities are a Small Group Ministry group geared for youth, and the 10-12 OWL Curriculum. What we need to know is if youth would participate in either of these programs, and if so, when would it fit their schedules?

If this is to happen, plans will need to be put in place over the summer, so it is important to get in touch ASAP if you are interested. Some possible scheduling options include: Sunday during the 11am time slot, later in the day on Sunday (but not conflicting with YRUU), or a weeknight. What do you think of these options? If it seems like we have a critical mass and some willing leaders, I will put plans in motion to make this program a reailty.
